The decision making process looks like this:

Step 1: Have us perform a “Home Energy Audit”

Step 2: Choose your improvements based on data gathered from audit & individual
               priorities.

Step 3: Choose your method to make improvements, i.e. do it yourself, find your own
crews, have our crews do the work, or some combination of all three.

Step 1: “Home Energy Audit”; An Energy Audit’s Purpose and Process

· Identify the rate of energy consumption for all major energy categories.

· Identify deficiencies in energy efficiency of existing structure and systems.

· Estimate labor and materials costs for energy related retrofits.

· Project savings expected from energy related retrofits.

· Estimate payback period, combining monthly savings, tax credits, equity.

· Provide RESNET “Home Energy Rating” reports, tax credit forms and estimates in writing.

· Methodology:

Our RESNET* Trained and Certified “Home Energy Raters” will perform a comprehensive examination and diagnostic testing of your homes building envelope, thermal properties, insulation, windows and doors, heating and cooling systems and appliances . This process involves numerous diagnostic tests, software driven analysis, visual inspections and takes 2-4 hours to complete, depending on the home size and age. Residents will receive a written report in which the home is “rated” or given a grade depending on the existing energy efficiency of the home, using the Home Energy Rating System (HERS). The cost is 10 cents per square foot and proper documentation will be provided in order to receive tax credits.

*RESNET is the national certification process designed & approved by the Federal Department of Energy for Home Energy Raters and is the only certification recognized for most federal and state tax incentives.

Step 2: Choose your improvements based on data gathered from audit and individual priorities.

The home energy audit will reveal any deficiencies in the home’s energy efficiency and we can provide a start to finish list of improvements. You can either choose the “low hanging fruit”, meaning inexpensive improvements to reduce energy use with the quickest payback period and/or longer time horizon investments in both energy efficiency and home equity.

Step 3: Choose your method to make improvements.

· Do it yourself,

· Find your own crews,

· Have our crews do the work,

· Or some combination of all three.

· Our organization has over 70 years of combined experience in energy conservation and the building trades.
